taken with him!

* Live Auction with lots of cool items up for bid!

Cameras welcome!

Monday, August 1, 2005

Boarding starts at 4:30 p.m.

Disembarkation ends at 9:30 p.m.

MAJOR UPDATE

There are lots of tickets left! So here are some new details:

You will still be able to buy tickets via the DLF office today and on

Monday (not a holiday for them) - and we would prefer you do it that

way. However, now you can also send me an email directly

(ktkm@ktkm.com)

with:

* CC number

* Expiry Date

* Last three digits on the back of the card

* Your mailing address

* Phone number

* Email address

* Number of tickets and guest names

I do suggest that you contact me as soon as you can - before Sunday

would be best - as I will be spending most of Monday with final

arrangements and won't be near my email. Also: If you are nervous about

emailing that kind of info to me, please email me with your phone

number

and I can call you directly and get it taken care of.

We will also selling teh remaining tickets dockside. If you (or your

friends) are going to buy them there we would REALLY prefer cash

(either

$100US - or $122 Canadian, but I'll confirm the exchange rate that

morning). We can process credit cards there but it will take a little

longer (come earlier if you can please).

We will not be able to get any more people on the boat as of 4:45 p.m.

So PLEASE come early (someone will be at the boat as of 3 p.m.)

Getting to the boat

Okay, how do you get to the boat (VERY important). The boat is called

the "Mariposa Belle" and you can board it at Queen's Quay Terminal at

207 Queen's Quay West.

If you are arriving by TTC, take the "509" or "510" Harbourfront

Streetcar directly from Union Station (2 stops to York Street). A

transfer is not required, as the Streetcar platform links up below

ground at Union Station with the Yonge-University subway line.

If you are coming by car: From the Gardiner Expressway, take the Yonge

Street Exit from the west or the York Street Exit from the east. From

Lakeshore Boulevard, all streets access Harbourfront Centre. Public

parking is available directly across the street, located at 200 Queen's

Quay West (lot managed by Standard Park). The lot can be accessed from

travelling either westbound along Queen's Quay or by travelling

northbound and southbound along Lower Simcoe Street. The Terminal is at

the foot of York street, on Queen's Quay West.

Click here for a map.

Dress

Dress for the event is "summer casual." I would suggest wearing

whatever

it is that you would wear to attend a concert. I would, however,

STRONGLY suggest that you don't wear high heels. It is a boat and while

it is usually quite stable things could be a little rocky. And the last

thing you want to do is fall overboard!

Auctions

Finally, I hope you can also come prepared to bid on the wonderful

things we have for the auction. They include a leather Roots bag, CDs

autographed by ALL the Boys, wardrobe from past shows, DLF

Build-A-Bears, and... backstage passes. Wow!

Tickets: $100US (approx. $122CDN) each.

Contact Dorough Lupus Foundation at (321) 725-8599 to purchase tickets.

For more details contact Kat Morgan

I didn't go but along with Erika, we arranged to have two friends from a Yahoo! Group attend the cruise. Here's what she had to say.

Ella and I had a wonderful time on the DLF cruise. I was impressed that Howie greeted each fan, one by one, as we boarded the boat, and was so patient while each person obtained a personal photograph with him. He was charming and gracious and such a gentleman. And yes, he's hot, LOL, His skin is like butter.

When I introduced myself to him, I asked if I could take a moment of his time, and he said, "Of course!" I had a letter for him, from Sarah and Erika, regarding their DLF 50/50 Raffle fundraiser. I gave it to him, and I informed him of the raffle, and that they would be so grateful for his endorsement. He thanked me profusely for the raffle (although it wasn't my raffle, LOL), and said that the best person to give this letter to was Angie, his sister, who was also there. I immediately said that Pollyanna and Angie both know about the raffle and gave their support, but the fans wanted his endorsement. Howie stated that he would do his best.

Later on the cruise, I spoke with Angie about the raffle, and the letter, which she received. She said that there are so many DLF fundraisers she can't keep track of every one, and Howie usually only endorses those fundraisers that he is directly involved with, such as the cruise.

It was a wonderful cruise. It was so hot, even on the water. Howie was very hospitable, signing autographs, speaking to fans on cell telephones...he really indulged his fans.

The silent auction and live auction went well- old tour memorbillia, clothing Howie wore on stage, posters (which he signed)...the most expensive items were the DLF Build-A-Bear that sold for close to $800.00, and two seperate sets of concert tickets plus a Meet & Greet (Howie noted that he would try to get the other guys but he couldn't guarantee it) went for $3400.00 EACH. Everything else was $200-500.00.

At one point, as another cruise boat passed us, and the crowd on that boat started hollering over to us (it was all good fun, they were saying hello), and Howie started hollering back, and dancing, and then he yelled, "Backstreet's Back!" It was so funny. He was also so funny modelling the clothes for auction. I can definitely see why he's known as the guy you want to party with. Who knew?????

Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I would repeat in a heartbeat.
